Other Dolls

12/07 These are two dolls that I made just playing…well actually I was really ticked off because my van broke again ($1300–ARGH) and I needed some art therapy. The arms and legs are electrical wire and the body is cheap paper clay (DAS). They are kinda of ugly but I think they are fun. The cat has a pipe cleaner tail and he has wires for wiskers. The girls skirt is made out of vintage crepe paper and the hair is dyed wool.
12/07 Two little snow dudes I made that were inspired by an old Martha Stewart magazine article. They were easy to made but messy. It is quilt batting, glue and styrofoam balls. I’ve always liked the old cotton batting ornaments and they are alot cheaper than buying them.
12/07 The little bear on the left with the sailer hat was made as a “pin doll” for a doll party I went to. He is approx 2 1/2 inches tall. The same as his brother on the right..those are my hands in the pictures so you can get an idea of scale. I have had the pattern for at least 20 years (so I do not remember who the original artist is.) They are made out of doe suede and actually really quit easy to make. The arms are attached using real little buttons (thanks to my mom’s expert garage sale shopping skills…thanks mom.)
This doll was done for a challenge in my doll group “Dollirious” in Arlington, Wa. We were challenged to make a doll based on children’s book picture. I picked “Louise Builds a House.” It is about a sister to makes this exotic house and in the end decides to give it to her sister “because she would like it.” The body pattern is based on the pattern “Twig and Blossom” by Julie MeCullough.
This is a view of the picture that I took the pose and art work from. It was displayed in the Snohomish library 2006 for childrens book week along with the rest of the dolls that my club did.

Your snowman are delightful! I have done some work with MESSY cotton batting…but the results are great, aren’t they?
